'Madhagaja Raja', a movie starring actor Vishal and directed by Sundar. C, faced several delays due to production-related issues before finally releasing on January 12 as a Pongal special. Despite being released 12 years after its initial announcement in 2013, the film became a massive success in Tamil. The comedy element brought by Santhanam’s punchlines was a key factor in its popularity. The film also starred Anjali, Varalaxmi Sarathkumar, Sonu Sood, the late Manivannan, Manobala, and several other notable actors.
Following its significant success in Tamil, Sundar. C expressed interest in releasing the movie in Telugu. Staying true to his statement, the Telugu version of 'Madhagaja Raja' premiered on January 31. However, the Telugu audience didn’t embrace the movie as warmly. The box office collection details reveal that the movie collected Rs. 40 lakhs on its opening day, followed by a meager Rs. 30 lakhs on the second day. By the end of the first week, the Telugu version didn’t cross the Rs. 1 crore mark. Contrastingly, the Tamil version had nearly hit Rs. 50 crores in collections.
This stark difference in reception highlights the varying impact of the movie between the Tamil- and Telugu-speaking audiences.
