College students organize 'COVID-19' party to see who gets infected first

Friday, July 3, 2020 • Tamil Comments

College students from USA's Alabama have been throwing 'COVID-19' parties gathering several people in order to gamble and find out who would get infected with the virus first.

The students have reportedly been holding the ridiculous parties on purpose, where they would invite several people infected with the virus to the gathering and gamble on each other to find out who contracts the virus first. The first person who gets infected with the virus would apparently get all the cash they put in a pot. Even though the authorities initially thought that the reports were rumours, they did some research later only to find that the students were indeed holding such parties on purpose. "Not only do the doctors' offices confirm it but the state confirmed they also had the same information," the fire chief said. It is unclear whether action will be taken against those individuals. In March, the University of Alabama canceled in-person classes and spring commencement to curb the spread of the coronavirus. It plans to reopen the campus for some in-person classes in the fall, according to the school's website.

Tuscaloosa City Councilor Sonya McKinstry reportedly told a news agency, "It's nonsense. But I think when you're dealing with the mind frame of people who are intentionally doing stuff like that and they're spreading it intentionally, how can you truly fight something that people are constantly trying to promote?" Alabama residents will have to go through a mandatory quarantine for 14 days in case they test positive for the virus. Breaking the quarantine will result in them paying a fine of $500.
