In an interview the movie's director had said that the film required the cast to endure difficult conditions, including cold, windy, and rainy sets, but they persevered to deliver powerful performances. Despite having an ear infection, Tovino Thomas even shot underwater scenes such was his dedication to his craft, said the director.
