"Thug Life" is an upcoming Indian Tamil-language gangster action drama directed by Mani Ratnam, co-written with Kamal Haasan. This collaboration marks their reunion after 38 years since the iconic "Nayakan" (1987). The film is jointly produced by Raaj Kamal Films International, Madras Talkies, and Red Giant Movies.
The ensemble cast features Kamal Haasan, Silambarasan, and Trisha Krishnan in pivotal roles. Haasan portrays Rangaraya Sakthivel Naicker, a character with complex layers, prompting audiences to ponder, "Nallavara? Kettavara?" (Good man? Bad man?). Silambarasan and Trisha's roles add depth to this intense narrative
The technical crew includes A. R. Rahman composing the music, continuing his longstanding association with Ratnam. Ravi K. Chandran handles cinematography, and A. Sreekar Prasad is the editor.
Principal photography commenced in January 2024, with shooting locations spanning Chennai, Kanchipuram, Pondicherry, New Delhi, and parts of North India. By September 2024, the film entered post-production, with Haasan and Silambarasan beginning dubbing sessions.
"Thug Life" is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on June 5, 2025, in D-Box formats. The 45-second teaser, unveiled on Haasan's birthday, November 7, 2024, offers a glimpse into the film's gritty and intense atmosphere.
