Heartbreaking news for Thala Dhoni fans all over the world has surfaced over the internet. Chennai Super Kings have officially announced that MS Dhoni steps downs from the captaincy of the franchise. The team broke the news with an official press release today (March 24) and shared the same with the fans via their Twitter handle.

CSK's statement read, "MS Dhoni has decided to hand over the leadership of Chennai Super Kings and picked Ravindra Jadeja to lead the team. Jadeja, who has been an integral part of Chennai Super Kings since 2012, will only be the third player to lead CSK. Dhoni will continue to represent Chennai Super Kings this season and beyond."

It is now official that MS Dhoni will pass on the baton to 'Sir' Ravindra Jadeja, the most valuable all-rounder of the franchise since 2012. Dhoni has led Chennai Super Kings in 204 matches dating back to 2008. He has won 121 matches, lost 82 and one match was ended without a result. CSK under MSD has clinched 4 IPL trophies and 2 Champions League T20 titles.

Dhoni had captained the Indian national cricket team in limited-overs formats from 2007 to 2017 and in Test cricket from 2008 to 2014. The wicket-keeper and finisher batsman has always been always hailed as one of the greatest skippers in the history of cricket. The 40-year-old cricketer retired from all formats of international cricket in August 2020. Thala Dhoni will continue his stint in CSK in this season and the upcoming seasons purely as a player.
