A legal firm in the U.K. is threatening a lawsuit against the production of Squid Game: The Challenge due to injuries sustained by contestants during filming. Express Solicitors revealed on Thanksgiving Day that they represent participants seeking compensation over their experience on the reality competition inspired by the hit drama series.

The firm's CEO, Daniel Slade, stated that they've sent letters of claim on behalf of contestants who suffered injuries due to safety issues while filming in January. They're urging production companies to prioritize safety standards to avoid endangering participants. Presently, the firm represents two contestants and is in contact with others who may file claims.

Reportedly, contestants faced freezing temperatures during the shoot for the first episode's game. Despite the show depicting a short duration, it was shot over several hours in harsh winter conditions, dropping to 27 degrees Fahrenheit. Contestants were allegedly left in distressing positions for prolonged periods, resulting in injuries like hypothermia and nerve damage.

Slade emphasized the unexpected severity of the injuries and how contestants had not anticipated such harm during what they assumed to be a fun experience. Some suffered from hypothermia, while others endured extreme discomfort in cold weather despite being given ill-fitting clothing.

Responding to inquiries about contestant injuries, executive producers John Hay and Stephen Lambert defended the show's safety measures. They highlighted the complexities of filming and the anticipated difficulties in the contest, asserting that precautions were taken to ensure participants' well-being.

Netflix released the first five episodes of Squid Game: The Challenge, a reality adaptation of the original drama series. Despite high production values, the show has garnered mixed reviews, scoring poorly on Rotten Tomatoes, disappointing some viewers who expected a second season of the drama series rather than a reality show.
