Legendary Actress Pushpalatha Passes Away Marking End of an Era

Veteran actress Pushpalatha passed away at the age of 87 in Chennai on Tuesday (Feb 4) due to age-related ailments. She was the wife of actor A.V.M. Rajan. Pushpalatha made her debut in Tamil cinema with the 1958 movie ‘Sengottai Singam’. Over the years, she appeared in more than 100 films alongside major actors like M.G. Ramachandran (MGR) and Sivaji Ganesan.
Pushpalatha also acted in Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, and Kannada films. She played significant roles in Rajinikanth's ‘Naan Adimai Illai’ and Kamal Haasan's movies like ‘Kalyanaraman’ and ‘Sakalakala Vallavan’. In 1964, she became a model for Lux soap advertisements. During the filming of ‘Naanum Oru Penn’, she fell in love with A.V.M. Rajan, and the couple later married and had two daughters.
From the 1970s onward, Pushpalatha took on numerous supporting roles and appeared in her final film ‘Poovaasam’ in 1999, starring Murali. Her passing has brought grief to the Tamil film industry, with many expressing their condolences. Pushpalatha's last rites will be held at her residence in Chennai on Wednesday.
