Following a clash between the military troops in India and China over disputed territory which resulted in the death of 20 Indian soldiers, 59 Chinese based mobile apps, including the popular video sharing app TikTok, were banned in the country over data security concerns.

The online battle royale PUBG, however, was not among the banned applications. According to a report, in a recent development, the Indian government has taken up a list of 275 Chinese apps which will be examined for violations to security and user privacy. This has hinted at the increased security and also the possibility of Chinese internet companies which have been banned in the country. The list includes the popular mobile gaming app PUBG as well, in which Tencent is a major stakeholder. The list also consists of Zili by Xiaomi and AliExpress, an online shopping portal by AliBaba group. Apps including Resso and ByteDance's ULike could also be examined by the government for security violations. "Some of these apps have been red-flagged due to security reasons while others have been listed for violation of data sharing and privacy concerns," a spokesperson from the union home ministry reportedly said.

A senior government has mentioned that a process has been formed by the government for such bans and a law that will constantly examine the apps has been requested to be framed. "A set of rules or defined procedures may take time but is the correct process to go about it in the future," the official reportedly stated. "There is a process involved, there is a committee in place for such ban orders. If there is such an order, then it will act."

PUBG is an online battle royale game that gained traction soon after its PC and Xbox One launch and became a sensation when the game was released on iOS and Android devices. It is one of the most successful and highly addictive games that is popular among young adults across the globe right now, with nearly 175 million downloads in the country.
