Prince Harry has settled a privacy and data protection lawsuit against a major British newspaper publisher. He was suing the company for misuse of private information and infringement of copyright in relation to one of his photographs. His lawyer reported the settlement during a London court hearing on Friday.

The arrangement with Mirror Group Newspapers, for a minimum said to be worth £400,000, around $504,000, is that Such a settlement provides practical relief, serving as both a financial aspect and a symbolic victory. It helps cover the legal expenses that had accumulated on Harry's behalf after years of litigation with the tabloids. He said that the Mirror Group was also to pay further substantial damages, apart from legal expenses.

Harry went on to stress his commitment to uncovering what he termed "corrupt tabloid practices," saying this outside the high court in a statement read by Mr. Sherborne. The entire legal case rested upon accusations of illegal activities against the Mirror Group by phone hacking and other nefarious means of gleaning personal information about Harry and other claimants.

The settlement comes as the latest in growing criticism and scrutiny in relation to the tabloid's behavior, with evidence of involvement from such heavyweight names as Piers Morgan, the former Daily Mirror editor. While Mr. Morgan denies any involvement in his testimony, the legal hearings have shown the practices of the tabloid and what is legitimate in terms of media access into private lives.

The settlement was one of a number of privacy cases Harry pursued against publishers of tabloids and represented an example of his unyielding stance against media invasions of his privacy.
