While she is left blindfolded in a forest, Arjun finds himself unarmed in a desert. The story revolves around Arjun’s relentless pursuit to find his wife. Will Arjun find Kayal? Who abducted Kayal? What happens in the end? Forms the story of the movie.
Analysis:
Pattudala is the dubbed version of Vidaamuyarchi and it is loosely based on the 1997 film Breakdown. The makers improvised the sequences and localized it stylishly. The film's director is clever to pick Azerbaijan as the backdrop as it has an interesting landscape. The entire making look neat and stylish but emotionally, the film flatters big time.
The movie's narrative fails to attract the audiences as it lacked the much-needed twists that would make the audiences like an action thriller. The film also lacks the emotional arc which is another reason why the audiences would feel disconnected with the film's proceedings.
However, the film begins on the married couple, with an expectation that we will be shown a lot more glimpses into their lives but then, the film gets on to a road travel drama where many other characters get introduced. In the process, the connection between the scenes is improperly established.
Performances wise, there is nothing great to boast about. Ajith does his character well, as per the limitations. And then, his heroic act is nice. Trisha is good in her character. Arjun and Vijay are also impressive as per the limitations of their roles. Technically, the film is good. The cinematography by Om Prakash is a big plus. He captured the beauty of Azerbaijan perfectly. Anirudh’s music is not up to the mark.
Verdict:
Pattudala comes up with an intriguing plot but the way the narrative has been designed is a complete disappointment. Technically, the film looks great but lack of emotions and twists make this disengaging.
