Actor Nivin Pauly's much-awaited movie 'Thuramukham' directed by Rajeev Ravi was initially slated for a theatrical release. Now, the latest is that the team has announced to postpone the release owing to the surge in COVID-19. Nivin Pauly took to his official Instagram handle to announce the same and said that the rescheduled date will be announced later. It may be remembered that the movie had already gone through a couple of reschedulings. Due to this, the netizens were expecting that the movie might have an OTT release. Now, the team's latest announcement seems to have devastated the movie-buffs.

Touted to be a political period thriller, Thuramukham marks the first collaboration of Nivin Pauly and the National award-winning cinematographer-director Rajeev Ravi. Apart from Nivin Pauly, the ambitious movie will also feature Indrajith Sukumaran, Sudev Nair, and Biju Menon in pivotal roles. Nimisha Sajayan, the Kerala State Film Award-winning actress appears as the female lead opposite Nivin Pauly in the movie. 'Thuramukham' is based on workers' struggle against the 'Chappa' system, which was widely practiced at the Mattancherry harbor in Kochi, in the 1940s and 50s. The movie's screenplay is by Gopan Chidambaram, son of KN Chidambaram. The movie will mark the comeback of Rajeev Ravi after a gap of five years. His last movie as a director was the critically acclaimed super hit Kammatti Paadam (2016) starring Dulquer Salmaan in the lead role. For Thuramukham, Rajeev Ravi has doubled up as the cinematographer. Produced by Sukumar Thekkepat under the banner Thekkepat Films, the movie had its world premiere at the prestigious International Film Festival of Rotterdam (IFFR).
