Any film from Hariharan has an extra appeal. The much-delayed Mayookham is no exception to it. His film like Panchagni,Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha Sargam, Nakhakshathangal have left an indelible impact in mainline cinema. They are classics in the mainstream section. His last film Prem Pujari was however a failure. Starring Kunchacko Boba, it was a disaster.

But when such a trusted director comes back after a sabbatical, there is bound to an air of expectation.

In Mayookham, Hariharan has gone for another musical love story. There is no venomous heroism or hyped up goondaism. It is a simple story told straight --- a throw back to an era when life was uncomplicated.

Mayookham has Saiju Kurup and Mamta Mohandas, two debutants in the lead. It is a quiet, soft candy floss kind of film with a message against the reservation system.

Combining message with method is Hariharan's style.

The film's music is already a hit. Bombay Ravi's music has gone down well with the public.

Now the film has to.
