Movie lovers in general and Kamal fans in particular are in celebratory mode after it was officially announced that the long delayed 'Indian 2' has resumed production today (August 24th). The sequel to the 1996 pan Indian blockbuster is produced by Lyca Productions and directed by Shankar. The film ran into trouble midway due to various issues including a fatal on set accident and the coronavirus pandemic.

A grand pooja was conducted in January 2019 when the project commenced but now that Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies has entered the production a second pooja happened today before the start of the shoot. Along with director Shankar and actor Bobby Simha, the production designer T. Muthuraj, cinematographer Ravi Varman. Red Giant Shenbaghamurthy, Lyca Thamil Kumaran and others participated. Kamal is in the USA right now and will join the team in September and scenes that do not involve him are being shot till then.

There are two major changes in 'Indian 2' after the resumption one of which is that DOP Ravi Varman has replaced Rathnavelu who shot the portions so far. Secondly actor Guru Somasundaram has now boarded the project but it is still not clear whether he has replaced actors Vivek or Nedumudi Venu who passed away.

'Indian 2' has music by Anirudh and stars Kamal Haasan. Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Bobby Simha, Siddharth, Manobala, Gulshan Grover, Guru Somasundaram and Samuthirakani in key roles.
