Gautam Gambhir blames Dhoni for this reason

Monday, November 18, 2019 • Tamil Sport News Comments

It has been over 8 years since the victory of the 2011 World Cup at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai against Sri Lanka, where Gautam Gambhir, whose magnificent innings along with MS Dhoni's, was one of the key reasons for India's triumph that night. The player, who fell short of three runs from a personal landmark score, has revealed why he missed out on a century.

After the fall of wickets of Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar, Gambhir forged a 109-run partnership with Dhoni, before he was ultimately dismissed by Thisara Perera in the 42nd over of the match for 97. Gambhir has now explained that he was focused on scoring runs for the team up until that point of the game, but Dhoni's reminder that he was just 3 runs away from a century made him conscious and eventually led to his dismissal.

"I have been asked this question many times, on what happened when I was on 97. I tell every youngster and every person that before getting to 97, I never thought about my own individual score but looked at the target set by Sri Lanka. I remember that when an over was completed, I and Dhoni were at the crease. He told me that 'these three runs are remaining, get these three runs and your hundred would be completed'. Suddenly, when your mind turns to your individual performance, individual score, then, somewhere, you have a rush of blood. Before this moment, my target was only to chase Sri Lanka's target. If only that target remained in my mind, maybe, I would have easily scored my hundred," Gautam Gambhir reportedly said.

After missing a high-level parliamentary panel meeting on the growing air pollution crisis in the national capital on November 15 to eat jalebis in Indore, it looks like the former cricketer has invited controversy yet again with his careless accusation.
