Shankar known for his grandeur has directed some of the biggest blockbuster hits in Indian cinema. He is currently working on an as-yet untitled film with Telugu superstar Ram Charan. He has also planned to complete Kamal Haasan's 'Indian 2' which has been stalled due to creative differences with the producer Lyca Productions. He has also announced that he will be directing the Hindi remake of the mega hit movie 'Anniyan' starring Ranveer Singh reprising the role played by Vikram in the original.

Aishwarya, the eldest daughter of director Shankar, got married to cricketer Rohit Damodaran last June, with chief minister M.K. Stalin and other Kollywood celebrities in attendance.  It is reported that the police have registered a shocking molestation case against five people, including Rohit.

Shankar's son in law Rohit Damodaran is the owner of the Madurai Panthers cricket team and is also the captain of the Puducherry cricket team.  It is alleged Thamarai Kannan, a cricket coach in the union territory sexually harassed a 10th class student who came to train. The girl had reported this to the cricket club but the authorities allegedly tried to convince her and did not take action against the pervert.

Following the complaint lodged by the victim the Mettupalayam police have booked Thamarai Kannan and five others, including the cricket club president Damodaran, his son Rohit Damodaran and secretary Venkat, under the POCSO  Act (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences).  It is said that the accused are missing and the cops are on the lookout for them.
