Shankar is a renowned filmmaker in the Indian film industry and he is currently working on 'Indian 2' and 'RC15'. In June 2021, Shankar's daughter Aishwarya got married to Rohit, the captain of the Puducherry cricket team and the son of the sports club's secretary Damodaran.

Last year, a 16-year-old girl registered a complaint against five people including Shankar's son-in-law for sexual harassment when she had gone for cricket coaching. All five people were booked under the POCSO act. While the case is going on in court, Rohit took to his Instagram recently to make a crucial announcement.

Rohi Damodaran, Shankar's son-in-law, announced that he is going to take a break from cricket. He wrote:

"I have contemplated over this decision long enough and deliberated with myself very deeply about it. Cricket has been my biggest support system, my saviour, and the sport that has made me recognise myself for who I am. I owe more than I can express to the sport and the biggest driving factor behind this decision is to be honest and humble to the sport that created me.

I'm undergoing a turbulent phase in my life and this has taken certain sanctity and peace away from me on field. So till I feel mentally prepared both on and off the field again - it's my decision to take a short break from cricket for the upcoming season at the very least.

I hope this decision will be met with respect and privacy for my well being. As always, every supporter and well wisher is dear to me and I hope to come back stronger and do justice to all of you, myself and most importantly to the sport that defines love for me - cricket. Until then, I wish to thank everyone that supported, stayed and believed in me and the sport I love.

-Rohit."
