Sister of mass shooter in USA among his victims

Less than 15 hours after the news of a mass shooting in a Walmart store El Paso broke out, a masked gunman, wearing protective armour and wielding an AK-47 style assault rifle, had entered the Ned Peppers bar, known for its nightlife, in Dayton, Ohio, and shot at least 9 people dead and injured another 27 within 30 seconds of entering the bar. Among his victims was his 22-year-old sister, Megan Betts. The man was later shot dead by the police.

A Dayton police Chief said, "The suspected shooter, identified by police as 24-year-old Connor Stephen Betts, allegedly carried out the massacre with a .223-caliber rifle that he legally purchased and had two drum magazines that had 100 rounds of ammunition combined." He further added, "The suspect was wearing a ballistic vest, a mask, and protective ear muffs when he unleashed a barrage of shots on a street in Dayton's popular Oregon District, sending hundreds of people who had been out for a fun night on the town running for cover and leaving the sidewalks covered in blood."

The eight victims, excluding the shooter's sister, have been identified as, Lois Oglesby, 27, Saeed Saleh, 38, Derrick Fudge, 57, Logan Turner, 30, Nicholas Cumer, 25, Thomas McNichols, 25, Beatrice Warren-Curtis, 36, and Monica Brickhouse, 39.

Expressing his condolences, US President Donald Trump said on Sunday afternoon, "Hate has no place in our country. We have done much more than most administrations, not talked about very much but we have done actually a lot. But perhaps more has to be done. This is also a mental illness, if you look at both of these cases, this is mental illness, these are really people that are very seriously mentally ill."
