The mega auction for the upcoming season took place in the last two days ahead of IPL 2022. Chennai Super Kings has bought 25 players in the auction with Rs 2.95 crores remaining in the purse. CSK has auctioned 17 Indian players and 8 Overseas players including the retained players: Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad & Moeen Ali.

The franchise led by MS Dhoni bought their old players Robin Uthappa, Ambati Rayudu, Dwayne Bravo and Deepak Chahar. It is also worth mentioning that the 4-time trophy winners got back their old net bowlers into the official 25-member squad as players. CSK purchased 2 Tamil Nadu based domestic players from the auction pool.

Meanwhile, the big news is that CSK's star batsman Faf du Plessis was not bought back by the team management and Royal Challengers Bangalore has purchased him for Rs 7 crores in the mega auction. Faf has displayed phenomenal performance in CSK's overseas opener spot and now the team is looking to fill his shoes with the New Zealand batter Devon Conway.

Faf du Plessis has shared a video with the Chennai franchise fans to bid goodbye. The former South African captain has travelled with the Super Kings for nearly 10 years and played crucial knocks for the side in multiple playoffs matches since 2018. In the video, Faf said, "I just wanted to do a quick video message to say thank you to Chennai, the fans, the staff, the management and players for it has been a decade with one team. You create a lot of special memories. I think it's really important for me to say thank you. I've really enjoyed my time a lot. I will really miss everyone there. But as one door closes, a new one opens up and that comes up with great opportunities. I'm excited to see what the future holds. From me and my family, thank you very much."
